After my mother and father died in 1979, I knew something was missing in my life. I thought that there must be something more to life.

I was happily married and used to go to the library on Tuesdays with my husband. On this particular Tuesday, I went to the Christian book section and saw there was a book called ‘The Holy Spirit’ by Billy Graham. I picked the book off the shelf and asked my husband if he minded putting one of his books back so that I could take the Billy Graham book home.

After reading this book all the way through, I found a bible I already had in the house and started reading from the New Testament first. I read through the first four gospels and carried on reading through, what is called, the epistles. By the time I got to the first letter of John Chapter 4 Verse 20, I was so convicted.

The holy spirit came and showed me how wrong I was. The scripture says, “If someone says, ‘I love God’, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?” (1 John 4:20).

So, I prayed to Jesus and asked Him to forgive me of all my sins and that was in 1987. Before that I hadn’t been speaking to my sister for a while as we had fallen out, so I went and bought an Easter card and sent it to her. She phoned and things were great after that.
