After my mother and father died in 1979 I knew something was missing in my life. I
thought that there must be something more to life. I was happily married and
used to go to the library on Tuesdays with my husband.
On this one particular Tuesday I went to the Christian book section and saw there was a book called ‘The Holy Spirit’ by Billy Graham. I picked the book off the shelf and asked my husband if he minded putting one of his books back so I could take the Billy Graham book home. After reading this book all the way through I found a Bible I already had in the house and started reading from the New Testament first.
I read through the first four gospels and carried on reading through what’s called the epistles. By the time I got to the first letter of John chapter 4 verse 20 I was so convicted. The Holy Spirit came and showed me how wrong I was. The Scripture says “If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”
(1 John 4:20). So I prayed to Jesus and asked Him to forgive me of all my sins and that was in 1987. Before that I hadn’t been speaking to my sister for a while as we had fallen out, so I went and bought an Easter card and sent it to her. She phoned and things were great after that.
